★ Dirty Projectors - Dirty Projectors (2017)
If the first album of the Dirty Projectors was a painting, it would certainly be one of Picasso's. Unusual, angular, surprising, at the borders of various styles and musical genres. Normal or altered voices, samples, sound effects, instrumental paths, harmonies and disharmonies constitute this stunning piece.
★ Chinese Man - Shikantaza (2017)
The french trip hop collective is back with a great double album, moving their beat and samples patchwork to higher levels. The artwork that wraps their record is beautiful, "freely inspired by the tibetan path to enlightment" : an ascending parade of monkeys, elephants, hippos and crocodiles carrying traditionnal instruments, soundsystems and records !
★ Kanye West - 808s & Heartbreak (2008)
Before Kanye becomes the hip hop prophet 'Yeezus', before being married with a stupid rich bimbo and being affected by the megalomaniac virus, he made one of the best hip hop albums of the 21st century. I never get tired hearing his distording trembling voice, piano notes and percussions...
★ The Beatles - Live at the BBC (1994)
The Beatles where the best band of the 60s. Before their thunderous success projects them to the sky and destroys them, they performed for BBC a lot of live tracks from their repertoire but also many known and unknown covers of classic 50-60s songs. The first part of these BBC sessions is a main chapter of the Bible they left behind them. It testifies how "normal", brilliant and welted they were as a live band. Before being pushed by their hysteric fans to their luxurious homes and studios.
